Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum opens, creating the world’s first digital civilization science and technology museum

The Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum recently officially opened, welcoming numerous visitors. Located in Guangming District, Shenzhen, this new cultural landmark boasts a total construction area of 128,300 square meters. ThemedDigital Civilization, Innovative Future,” it features four exhibition halls and 950 exhibits, showcasing cutting-edge global technologies and creating an immersive experience. The museum is dedicated to being the world’s first digital civilization science and technology museum.

Designed by the world-renowned Zaha Hadid Architects, the Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum draws inspiration from natural forms, showcasing flowing, natural curves. China Construction Eighth Engineering Group Decoration Company undertook the curtain wall construction, assembling 95,887 custom-shaped stainless steel panels. The company innovatively adopted aone-model-throughBIM full-lifecycle management model. This involved collaboratively optimizing design parameters during the design phase, leveraging digital intelligence to precisely control over 300,000 key installation points during construction, and integrating BIM models into a smart management platform during the operation and maintenance phase, enabling real-time monitoring of the status of 90,000 panels. Ultimately, the curtain wall exudes a uniquely futuristic, technological feel. Before the opening and during the May Day holiday, China Construction Eighth Engineering Bureau Decoration Company also assembled a professional maintenance team. They used digital twin technology to calibrate the system, monitoring and adjusting various curtain wall system parameters in real time. They also worked with the operator to provide 24-hour on-site maintenance to ensure flawless performance of the curtain wall’s floodlighting, display screens, and other features.

Of particular note is the venue’s exterior gray-blue two-tone curtain wall, constructed from stainless steel panels with a waterdrop texture. Reflected sunlight simulates cosmic wonders such as the aurora borealis and nebulae, seemingly cloaking the building in a dynamic layer of light and shadow. To achieve a visually striking metallic finish, the curtain wall stainless steel panels were treated using a unique electrochemical oxidation coloring process (INCO). After over a hundred technical trials, the design was flawlessly realized.
